Sexual Trauma Therapy in Plano & Frisco, TX
Are past traumas impacting your life?
Something happened to you. Maybe a long time ago. Maybe recently. Maybe it was one devastating event, or maybe it was a slow accumulation of experiences that taught you that your body wasn't entirely your own.
And now it lives with you, in ways you may not have fully connected to the original experience. In the way you disconnect during intimacy. In the way certain touches feel wrong even when you want them to feel right. In the way your body tenses before your mind has even registered why. In the relationships that keep ending the same way. In the sexuality you've never quite been able to inhabit fully.
Sexual trauma doesn't stay in the past. It travels with you- into your body, your relationships, your sense of who you are and what you deserve.
But it does not have to define you permanently. And you do not have to carry it alone.
I'm Shanna Wilder, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Certified Holistic Sex Therapist with over 20 years of experience helping survivors of sexual trauma reclaim their bodies, their sexuality, and their capacity for safe, fulfilling intimacy. This is some of the most sacred work I do, and I do not take it lightly.
What sexual trauma looks like — and why it's often unrecognized:
Sexual trauma doesn't always look the way we expect it to. It doesn't always involve a stranger or a single catastrophic event.
It can include:
Childhood sexual abuse or inappropriate sexual experiences
Sexual assault or rape at any age
Coercion or pressure within a relationship
Medical trauma involving reproductive or sexual health
Religious or cultural shame messaging about sexuality that caused lasting harm
Growing up in an environment where healthy sexuality was never modeled or discussed
Experiences that felt wrong but that you've minimized or questioned, "Was that really that bad?"
If an experience left you feeling unsafe, ashamed, violated, or disconnected from your own body, it matters. You don't need a diagnosis or a label to deserve support.
How sexual trauma shows up in daily life:
Sexual trauma has a way of showing up in places you might not immediately connect to the original experience:
Difficulty becoming aroused or experiencing pleasure
Dissociation or checking out during sexual experiences
Anxiety, panic, or physical tension during intimacy
Avoidance of sex or physical touch entirely
Shame about your body, your desires, or your sexual history
Difficulty trusting partners even when they are safe
Patterns of relationships that feel familiar but harmful
Confusion about your own desires, boundaries, or sexual identity
Feeling like your sexuality belongs to someone else's story, not your own
What sexual trauma therapy addresses:
Processing the original trauma in a safe, paced, and carefully held environment
Understanding how trauma has shaped your relationship with your body and your sexuality
Rebuilding a sense of safety and ownership in your own body
Developing the capacity for pleasure without shame or fear
Healing the impact of trauma on your intimate relationships
Establishing and communicating boundaries from a place of genuine choice
Reclaiming your sexuality as something that belongs entirely to you
My approach:
Working with sexual trauma requires a particular kind of care, patience, and clinical skill. I work at your pace. There is no timeline, no pressure, and no destination you are required to reach by a certain point. Your healing belongs to you.
I use a trauma-informed approach that honors the way trauma lives in the body as well as the mind. We work with what you're ready to work with, when you're ready to work with it. Safety comes first- always, in every session.
I also work with the relational impact of sexual trauma, because trauma doesn't just affect the survivor, it affects their partnerships too. When appropriate, I work with couples navigating the impact of one partner's trauma history on their shared intimate life.
One thing I want you to know before you reach out: nothing you tell me will shock me, change how I see you, or make me think less of you. I have sat with some of the most painful and private human experiences imaginable. This is a space where your full truth is welcome.
A note on courage:
Reaching out for help with sexual trauma is one of the bravest things a person can do. It requires trusting someone with something you may have protected for years, or your entire life. I don't take that trust lightly. Ever.
You deserve a therapist who can go there with you without flinching. I can.
Who I work with:
I work with survivors of all genders, ages, orientations, and backgrounds. Sexual trauma does not discriminate and neither does my practice. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, kink-aware, non-monogamy friendly, and non-binary inclusive.
I work with individuals and with couples navigating the impact of trauma on their relationship.
